Keep Taking that Fish Oil

Omega-3 fatty acids have been recommended for their heart health benefits, and professionals in the health field have long been suggesting increasing omega-3’s in our diets. These healthy fats are found in fatty fish, and experts recommend 2 servings per week to obtain the benefits. Fish oil supplements have become increasing popular, especially since many people do not eat fish and because of the issues with mercury in our diets. However, some recent research has cast some doubts on whether the supplements have the same beneficial effects as the natural sources. A new study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings reviewed 34 different studies on EPA and DHA Omega-3s and found that they do indeed lower the risk of heart disease. So keep taking those fish oil pills – your heart will thank you for it!
